Grandma's House

We made a drive up to Michigan and a very short visit with my Grandmother in Flint. I came down with the flu and the girls all had horrible sounding coughs, so we had to cut our visit short. My grandmother has lived in the same house for over 60 years. She is making plans to sell it now because stairs have become problematic for her. I love that house and have lots of good memories there- especially playing in her yard. It was a joy, even if it was short lived, to watch the girls play in grandma's yard as well. They had never seen so many leaves in their lives! Love you Grandma.

Here's a few things around the house that I love and have been there, in the same spot ever since I can remember:

The old piano downstairs

a vignette in my mother's old bedroom.

the green metal glider outside

The very useful green stacking footstools.

A few of Grandma's mixers from all her years of professional cake decorating.

A weekend in Phoenix

Brent and I left our kids Little Rock with my sister and flew to Phoenix, AZ this weekend to look at a church looking for a children's pastor. Currently, we are sitting in the Phoenix Airport, done with our weekend and waiting to leave. Our flight goes through Houston and it is delayed because it is raining AGAIN in Houston. Good 'ole Houston, my hometown.

Anyway, I have never been in this part of the country before. It is very foreign to me. I have been to Columbia, Brazil and China, and this part of the country looks more like on of those regions more than the United States. The brown mountains really looks a lot like Amy's province of Gansu in China. Lots of dirt, lots of mountains, not much green. The streets are very well manicured and are lined with trees and bushes, so it feels a little better. We could not even tell the neighborhoods from the shopping centers because they all looked the same to us! Low stucco buildings with gravel and cacti for landscaping. Very sad that I did not bring a camera, so I have no pictures to post. :-( The weather is perfect. Apparently it's always perfect. No clouds, no rain, always sunny, always warm. The church did a lot of things outside. No lobby, they pulled the snack bar and tables and info booth outside every sunday. All the classrooms opened up to the outside walkway, no indoor hallways. All very different to us.

We drove up to Sedona last night. That was beautiful. We got to see the sun set over those red rock formations. Again, MAN I wish I had my camera. We did snap pictures with our cell phones, so maybe some of those will look ok. Well, the plane is finally boarding. so maybe we will be on our way to Houston soon.
