bird lovers

It's not that the birds can't survive without us, they just would be as fat without our backyard bird feeder.

You missed a spot dad!

to the Zoo

th
We went to a special evening event for zoo members last night. It wasn't as cool as it has been, very still and muggy but we still had a good time. The lions were more animated than they were in the day, but the birds were full and weren't interested in the food we proffered them. Karianne very courageously stood in the middle of the open bird aviary filled with small birds and held out her little stick with bird seed on it. No takers, since it was dark they just wanted to sleep. I think their favorite part of the night was the inflatables. They had a big inflatable slide that all the girls climbed right up and slide down, even Amy! We road the train, and the girls road the carousel.

"Momma what are those people doing in the Bear cage?"

Our day in pictures

Lucy said her first words today! Unfortunately it was dada, but I don't think she knew what it means. I'm sure as soon as she realizes that she is trying to say "mama" she'll fix that. :-)

reminising

I went outside this afternoon barefoot and weeded my garden a little. I miss Texas very much but I would never walk outside barefoot in Texas. Two things I absolutely do not miss about Texas is snakes and fire ants. I have not seen either since I have moved here. I hardly ever let me girls go outside and playin Texas, Snakes and fire ants were everywhere where we lived. I'm talking big nasty poisonous snakes!
One time I was very pregnant and very sick. I had a dove aviary in my back yard and I had an ongoing battle with water moccasin snakes who would sneak in and eat my birds! I saw one heading in to the cage and called my manly neighbor to come and get him for me. (My husband is always gone for stuff like this!) By the time he got there the snake had already started to eat my bird and he (my neighbor) just shrugged and said, " I hate snakes, just let him eat the bird, nothing I can do now!" The next time I had problems with the snakes I called a different neighbor and told him a snake was in my little plastic form fish pond in my front yard. He shows up with a shot gun. Uh, never mind I'll get the snake myself. :-) I did get pretty good at killing snakes myself, but I never knew what to do with them after I killed them. We lived too far out for trash pick up at our first house in Texas, I quickly found out they wouldn't burn if I threw them on the burn pile. I usually waited for Brent to dispose of them when he got home.
I had chickens for a while. It was heartbreaking because snakes would go after my chickens, eggs and baby chicks. I hated gathering eggs because there would usually be a snake coiled up on the nest devouring an egg. Once I found 2 poisonous snakes coiled up in my nesting boxes. I called my neighbor- different neighbor, he must have been over 70. This neighbor did not mind snakes. He went in my chicken coop grabbed one snake by the tail and started twirling it around his head like a lasso. I had followed him in to show him were the snake was, I shrieked and crawled out of the coop before I got hit by a flying snake! Safely on the outside, I watched him twirl that snake over his head and snap it on the ground breaking it's neck! Then he grabbed the other snake. They were both pretty long and this one hit the edges of the cage as it whirled around. The image has never left my mind.
Boy I hate snakes!

"Boo Boo Booey"

I told the girls they could watch a movie today and they all wanted to pick one. Amy kept saying "Boo Boo Booey" I kept asking her to repeat it and she'd say "Boo Boo Booey Movie Momma!"
I'd say "Boo Boo Booey?" and she'd laugh and say, "no momma, Boo Boo Booey!" I never did figure it out and she just laughed and walked off. She came back a few minutes later with a movie in her hands, She held it up to me and said, "Boo Boo Booey!"
OOOOOHH, Of course, Boo Boo Booey!"

Sleeping Beauty! ;-)

Angie and Amy's favorite song to sing is "You Never Let Go" by Chris Tomlin I think. Angie sings over and over, "Oh no, You never let go, through the calm, through the storm..." repeat. Amy puts a whole different twist on the meaning of the song. She shouts out, "Oh no, Let Go! Let go of me!" kinda changes things doesn't it? :-)

Ketchup anyone?

It's hard to make time for dinner on church nights. On the way home from church tonight I got dinner at Sonic for us. I got 3 corn dogs and 2 burgers, that's it. When I got home I found the bag half full of Ketchup and Mustard! I have never gotten that many condiments with fast food before, they usually forget to give me any. This just cracked me up and I had to get a picture.

Oh, I did get 4 napkins. Better eat neat with all that ketchup and only 4 napkins!

Camping

We went camping this weekend over Labor Day. We thought we were going to the beautiful Lake Tenkiller that is supposed to be reknown for it's clear waters. We looked on the internet for all the campgrounds around the area and chose one, Greenleaf State Park. We had a nice time. Brent rented a kayak, a canoe, and then he rented a Pontoon boat for the whole family to ride around the lake on. We really enjoyed that. I thought the lake looked really muddy and wasn't impressed if this was known for being a clear lake. We finally asked what lake we were on and we were told it was Greenleaf Lake. Bummer. The girls really wanted to swim so we swam in Greenleaf Lake. I felt like we were swimming in the cow pond that was behind our old house in Texas.

Karianne has wanted to go fishing for a long time. She finally got her chance. We got her a princess fishing pole and she went at it. She did a great job casting. there was a little princess crown weight to tie on the line to practice casting. She practiced a little bit and then I asked her if she was ready for me to put a hook on her line. She looked suprised as if she didn't know there was more to fishing. I put a hook on it and baited it and let her go.
She casted a few times and got impatient that she hadn't caught a fish yet. She wanted me to try and then she asked if I could put the crown back on so she could fish with that. I was fine with that, didn't have to worry about anyone besides fish getting hooked.
We were walking back from fishing and saw a dead squirrel in the road. We all said how sad that was. Karianne said it's momma must be worried about about it. Angie kept saying "aw, poor squirrel" Karianne turned around and I could just hear the eye roll in her voice. She said, "Angie! Don't worry, the squirrel is not going to stay dead. It's just sleeping!" Right, sleeping in the middle of the road with it's head missing. I'm not sure if she believed it or was just trying to make Angie feel better.

Amy said a new word on the camping trip. She saw a picture of Cinderella whom she loves and said, "momma yook (look) Chia wa wa (Cinderella). Well you never know, Princess Cinderella could have been Senorita Chiawawa.

Enjoy the pictures. Sorry, no pictures of the squirrel

A song for Song

I'm advocating for this child and ask you to please pray for him:

A Song for Song

On the
other side of the world sits a little boy named Song. He is an
orphan of China. He has cancer of the eye. Song needs the lullabies
of all the mothers of the world as he has no mother to sing to him.
He was without a mother when they removed his right eye. He is now
without a mother to fight for his life. Song needs you to sing his
song to the world.

Song was diagnosed with
retinoblastoma, a curable form of eye cancer
if diagnosed early. If left untreated, and if the proper medical
intervention doesn't occur, Song will most likely die.

So, I plead with you, I urge you to look into Song's beautiful face
and sing to him. Promise Song your voice, your donation, and give him
a chance at a mother's embrace. Give him a chance to retain his other
eye. Give him a chance to live. Your donation can save Song's life.
He needs you and he needs you now because early intervention is critical.

help him, please click on the following link:

Cheerios

This is what happens when I leave Karianne and Lucy alone with a bag of Cheerios.
